High-voltage DC power lines can efficiently transport electricity over thousands of kilometers and for long distances underwater better than ac. Dc power line would be more efficient at connecting renewable energy. It could bring places with no sun shine or wind solar and wind power. More renewable energy could better compete with fossil fuel. The thing that surprised me the most is renewable energy could replace fossil fuels. The possibility that big dc grids could power cities.
